Colleges and Universities are snapping up the .XXX domains in a pre-emptive strike against squatters or anyone else that could potentially ruin their good name. But what about your good name?

Could you image coming across only God knows what at <insert-your-name-here>.xxx ?   I already have my personal domain names registered, but should I also pay the between $200 – $600 pre-sale fee to make sure my name doesn’t end up on the shelf of the porn industry?

I feel torn about this. How much is your personal name and brand worth to you? Are celebrities snatching theirs up to?  Public officials?  Well according to this article from August on The UKs Register, yes.  15,000 domains have been marked reserved including many celebrities, high ranking government officials, the famous and the infamous.

I think anyone who can prove their legal name should be allowed to reserve one as well although the article says any organization with a trademark can participate in this “sunrise-phase”. What about plain ole me? Maybe I have to trademark my name. Food for thought. What say you?
